The Student Ambassador’s newsletter Q4 2022
The Student Ambassador’s quarterly newsletter keeps you updated on how the Student Ambassador and many others are working to improve students’ legal rights and promote dialogue and understanding between students and the University.
Counselling needs in Q4
In Q4 2022, the Student Ambassador received 91 enquiries.
The majority of the enquiries were from students who wanted guidance on how to apply for exemption. Overall, the students wanted to apply for exemption for additional exam attempts, extension of the study completion time, postponement of the first-year exam requirement or special exam or teaching conditions due to functional impairments.
Additionally, a large part of the enquiries came from students who wanted to complain about an exam or who wanted guidance on legal complaints.
Webinar for new students with functional impairments
On 3 November 2022, we held our regular webinar for new bachelor students with functional impairments. At the webinar, we talked about how to request for so-called appropriate measures based on the individual student’s specific needs, how to apply for exemption and any special rights during the studies.
17 students participated in the webinar. Since then, several students who were unable to attend the webinar have contacted us asking about guidance for their specific situation.
UCPH course to write clearer decisions and emails to students
In October 2022, we held the second UCPH course on writing clearer decisions and emails to students.
This time, the course included presentations on writing guidelines from public authorities and the writing guidelines that are used in the SCIENCE Study Administration’s four-hour course for new staff members.
In agreement with UCPH courses, we will offer the course again in October 2023.
Key figures 2022
When publishing this newsletter, we have stepped into 2023 and the student ambassador can look into the total number of enquiries in 2022.
In 2022, we received a total of 591 enquiries, of which 581 came from students at the University of Copenhagen. In 2021, we received a total of 621 enquiries from UCPH students.
The majority of enquiries in 2022 came from students who wanted to apply for exemption. As in 2021, these enquiries made up nearly one third of all enquiries.
In 2022, many of the enquiries about guidance for applying for exemption came from students with functional impairments and made up almost 40 percent of all enquiries across the various categories.
In addition, it should be noted that the number of enquiries about suspected exam cheating has dropped from 8.86 percent in 2021 to 6.54 percent in 2022. This drop comes after an increase in enquiries about exam cheating in 2020 and 2021 due to, for example, the corona situation and changed exam forms.
